Pastor Oliver Archer was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Although raised in a big city, he feels that he was fortunate enough to grow up in an Adventist home where Christian values were continually placed before him and where he had the benefit of seeing these modeled in the lives of his two parents. He is the only son of John and Olive Archer.
Pastor Archer is a product of Christian education and has spent his entire educational experience in Adventist schools. When he was 14 years old, he left the New York area to attend Blue Mountain Academy, one of our boarding schools in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. There, Pastor Archer received the “full treatment” and was involved in many clubs and organizations and was afforded many leadership opportunities. During his senior year as class pastor, he had the opportunity to speak to his peers on numerous occasions – in Chapel programs and dorm worships – which was a tremendous blessing. It was in academy where Pastor Archer believes God began to mold his life for ministry. However, the fruit of which would be a long time coming.
Pastor Archer attended Andrews University where he didn’t immediately pursue the ministry; instead he pursued a career in aviation flight and maintenance. Before graduating from academy Pastor Archer had already received his private pilot’s license and upon entering Andrews he began a program of study in aviation maintenance. Many of us have had our Jonah experiences, where we turn away from what we sense the Lord calling us to do, this was his. However, the Lord had a plan and while working as an airplane mechanic in Upstate New York one summer, God impressed upon him that maintenance was not his calling. He returned to Andrews to study Religion and finish his bachelor’s degree. Upon graduating with his undergrad degree Pastor Archer immediately began a graduate program in Religious Education, with an emphasis in youth ministries. He finished his Master’s degree in June 1994.
In the fall of the same year Pastor Archer became the Chaplain and Bible Teacher at Wisconsin Academy. There he served for three years and was privileged and humbled to be involved in impacting young lives for Christ. This continued as he became one of the Religion Instructors and Witnessing/Service coordinator at Andrews Academy in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Pastor Archer’s emphasis has been in leading young people to become Spiritual leaders.
Pastor Archer was ordained by the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists on August 25, 2000 and currently serves as the Associate Pastor for Youth at the Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University.
Pastor Archer was blessed by God to marry the former Arlene Edwards on May 25, 2008. This union has enhanced his ministry, fortified him Spiritually and filled his life with a foretaste of heaven. His wife shares in his passion for youth and young adults and is a singer, as well as an accomplished professional in her own right.
